Supervision
new Therapists
If you are new to the field, you will likely require supervised hours and I am certified to provide those hours. I can offer traditional supervision as well as a Focusing (body-based/somatic-based) approach, or a mixture of the two. If you are interested in receiving supervision from me, please send your request by email to: nicole@nicolemitchell.net
Experienced Therapists
While we may be experienced, there are times when a consult with a supervisor can be helpful. In addition, if you are transitioning into a new therapy modality that fits within my scope of practice (polyvagal, or Focusing (somatic-based work), for example), it may be a good fit to be supervised by me during your transition. Please send your request by email to: nicole@nicolemitchell.net
Practicum Students (ACCEPTING STUDENTS FOR SEPTEMBER - APRIL PLACEMENT ONLY)
2024-2025: FULL (see student pages on this website)
2025-2026: Applications accepted end of Dec 2024 - end of Jan 2025
Eligible Students
If you are a University of Toronto student in the MEd in Counselling program, this is a potential practicum placement for you (FYI: I do not supervise Yorkville University students). I run a small private practice located in the GTA, but the placement can be offered completely remotely, so you do not need to be in the GTA (though you must be within Ontario). A hybrid model is also possible for local students.
The type of students who thrive in this placement are self-starters and are able to work independently. I will be able to guide you through things, and answer any questions you have, and at the same time, it will be up to you to ensure everything is completed on time.
Referrals
Clients will be referred to you by the supervisor, the collaborating supervisor as well as through referral sources such as the Affordable Therapy Network. Therefore, it will be a requirement that you create a profile to be distributed.
Private Practice Track
Another benefit of this placement is that if you are interested in setting up your own private practice, there is a track for this as well. Including an outline with objectives to be completed and some guidance on everything you will need to have completed by the end of your practicum year so that you are ready to launch as soon as your practicum ends. In addition, any clients that you accumulate through your practicum can become your clients in your private practice post-practicum if the clients choose to go with you.
Self-Practice (Focusing)
One thing that will be important to know when you consider if this placement is a good fit for you, is that I will be teaching you Focusing as a self-practice (it is similar to mediation, but with a few more processing steps). I will have you practice with another student as well. This is intended to provide you with a personal embodied experience of Focusing, and this first hand experience is meant to assist you in your work with your clients.
Collaboration
One benefit of this private practice placement is that there is some collaboration with other students and another practicum supervisor which offers a diverse experience (when that placement supervisor has students).
Applying
